Mission

The United Nations Committee of New Canaan believes our country and the world are best served by a vital and credible UN, the continuing effectiveness and evolution of which are supported and led by the U.S. To that end, the Committee undertakes to monitor the course of U.S./UN affairs on behalf of our community, broadens the community's awareness of U.S. foreign policy and international relations, and calls attention to the need for U.S. leadership in the various peacekeeping and humanitarian activities of the UN. In addition, from time to time, the Committee may initiate and/or engage in various community support activities that highlight international problems relating to America's role among nations and related on-going services of the United Nations. Annually on October 24th, the Committee recognizes, in conjunction with our Town, the contributions of the UN.

UNITED NATIONS MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS
The United Nations Committee of New Canaan fully subscribes to the Millennium Goals of the United Nations, especially articles 2 & 3, regarding universal primary education and gender equality. Our fund drive to start a new school for Afghan girls is right in line with article 2.
